Client request: The project was created for a young couple seeking a clean, monochrome interior with natural materials. Each had specific requests: the husband required a home office with a large adjustable-height desk, while the wife needed a kitchen designed for her passion for baking. Their goal was a minimalist, airy space that reflected their personal styles and the modern feel of their apartment’s location.
Completed project stages:
Advantages and Initial Challenges: The apartment’s main advantage was its location and stunning view. The original layout was functional and required minimal changes, offering good zoning from the start. However, the quality of the finishes was poor and outdated, which meant we had to start from scratch in terms of materials and decor.
Minimal Remodeling: While the layout worked well overall, we made a few key changes. An extra bathroom was converted into a spacious walk-in closet with a large mirror, perfect for the couple’s needs. Other than that, the original plan was left intact to preserve the comfortable flow between spaces.
Architectural and Decorative Solutions: Natural materials were central to the design. We used dark parquet flooring to create contrast with lighter wood wall panels and cabinet facades, giving the space a warm, cohesive feel. Locally, black wood was added to furniture to complement the black electrical equipment and provide a bold accent. Shadow-gap baseboards and hidden doors added a sleek, modern touch, while updated diffusers and minimalist vent grilles further refined the clean look.
Kitchen and Living Room: The open kitchen-living room features no upper cabinets to keep the space uncluttered. A kitchen island, made from natural marble, serves as both a functional centerpiece and a zoning element. In the living room, the minimalistic aesthetic continues with a Ditre sofa, highlighted by its adjustable headrest, adding both comfort and style.
Furniture and Textiles: Furniture choices were minimal but impactful, with several custom-made pieces. The bedroom centers around a grand Living Divani bed with a large headboard, complemented by light wood nightstands and PANZERI lighting. The dining area, also from Ditre, stands out with a stunning wood grain pattern on the table.
Bedroom and Bathroom: The bedroom echoes the overall minimalist theme, featuring clean, curved forms and soft lighting. In the bathroom, we used large-format ceramic tiles to minimize grout lines, creating a spa-like atmosphere. In the guest bathroom, we opted for decorative plaster instead of traditional tile, further enhancing the clean aesthetic.
Challenges solved:
Retaining functional zoning while minimizing structural changes: The original layout worked well, so we focused on enhancing it through subtle adjustments and careful material choices.
Harmonizing different materials: We balanced the warmth of wood with the sleekness of stone and marble, creating a seamless blend of natural elements.
Achieving a clean, minimalist aesthetic: Through the use of hidden doors, shadow-gap baseboards, and modern finishing elements, we maintained an uncluttered look throughout.
The most rewarding aspect of this project was how closely the finished design matched the visualizations. Communication with the clients was flawless, leading to a design process with no revisions—a true testament to the success of the collaboration.
