Design project for the Wings residential residence

Design Project:

Apartment

Location:

Moscow, Russia

Area:

48 m²

Client Request:

The client is a graphic designer, so the primary goal of the project was to create a calm and relaxing interior. Since designers work with a lot of digital imagery and graphics, it was important for the home to provide visual rest. The space was also meant to reflect the client’s balanced and calm personality, and the final result achieved this perfectly—she felt right at home, which means we did everything correctly.

Completed Project Stages:

  1. Layout Features: The original apartment size was 52.18 sq. m, reduced to 47.69 sq. m after the redesign. One of the key decisions was to round off the walls and furniture in narrow spaces, which visually expanded the area and added a sense of fluidity and continuity.
  2. Architectural and Decorative Techniques: Rounded shapes were applied throughout, from the walls to the furniture. In the bedroom, a bed with a curved headboard “embraces” the nightstands. In the entryway, a colored ceiling and mirror visually enhance the space.
  3. Kitchen and Living Room: The kitchen-living room was kept minimalist, with no upper cabinets to avoid cluttering the space. The main focus was on natural marble, and an island was installed instead of a table, serving as both a functional and zoning element.
  4. Furniture and Textiles: Almost all of the furniture was custom-made, except for a few light fixtures and chairs. Textiles play a significant role, adding warmth and comfort, while rugs and decor create unique focal points.
  5. Bedroom and Bathroom: The bedroom features curved forms and soft lighting, with bedside tables made from stone left over from the kitchen island. The bathroom has a spa-like atmosphere, achieved by using microcement and a stylish sink by Antonio Lupi.

Challenges Solved:

  1. Visually expanding narrow spaces with smooth lines.
  2. Functional zones that don’t overwhelm the space.
  3. Balancing minimalism with unique decorative elements.
